He came home. Something about him was different today. I looked at him with mixed feelings. I had scored atrocious results in my examinations. On the worn and broken down sofa, he sat. I had received continuous humiliating scolding just an hour ago from my mother. Looking at his peaceful face, I thought back at the times we had together.

He had used to cuddle me in his warm, firm chest. I had loved the feeling. I had never wanted to leave him if given a chance. Yet, he had always stood by me when I received a long reprimand from my mother.

I would have loved to bask in those happy memories, until I heard a grunt from my father. He looked up at me.

" Son, you have something to show me?" He said in a slurred voice. I sensed immediately that something was wrong. His voice was usually strong and full of pride. He would never embarrass himself this way. His whole body also reeked of an unknown substance. It stung my nostrils, causing me to pull back instinctively.

I hesitated to move near that smell. However I recalled again the happy times we had together, and moved forward to pass him my result sheet, acting like I was resentful. He took a brief look at it.

I saw his fists clench. I did not dare to look up into his eyes. Although I knew he would not do anything to me, that action has caused me to flinch a little. He seemed almost ready to strike. He would not, would he? I thought.

While contemplating over that, I felt an excruciating pain on the top of my head. I knew how this pain was felt. My dad was using his knuckles and pushing hard against my head. I screamed in agony. I writhed in pain. But it all seemed useless in his strong grapple. I was sure I heard birds flying from the pitch of my screech.

" Why! You are a failure!" With that, he pushed even harder. I could stand it no longer. Putting considerable strength in my upper arm, I pulled my elbow back. It struck him flat in the middle of the torso.

His eyes wide, I had only just realized what I had done.

( This is the first fiction story written on my blog, generally it would be filled with mistakes. I really appreciate all of you to point out my mistakes so that I can improve. Generally, anyone who helps me can come and find me for help, for Mathematics that is.)
